More About Telehealth at Optimum Wellness Centers

Initial Evaluation and In-Clinic Visit Supplement

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are adding telehealth appointments to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Wherever practical, access to care across the entire primary care system is being augmented by online meeting technologies like ZOOM and Skype – physical therapy is no exception.

It’s also noteworthy that regardless of the pandemic, supplementing your plan of care with remote support from your therapist should improve your overall patient experience. Assuming you have access to the internet, telehealth services can be used in almost all situations. For example, you can:

  • Begin your initial evaluation and assessment.
  • Get education about the benefits of physical therapy for your particular condition.
  • Receive and review home exercise programs.
  • Supplement your in-clinic sessions.
  • Encourage quick check-ins for progress and setbacks.
  • Increase the speed for adopting effective strategies to:
    • Improve function.
    • Enhance safety by reducing the risk of injury and identifying at-home risks (like falling).

In addition, certain ailments are well-suited for remote physical therapy intervention, including:

  • Alzheimer’s
  • Arthritis
  • Cognitive/Neurological/Vestibular disorders
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Musculoskeletal conditions
  • Pre and Post-operative rehab
  • Parkinson’s
  • Sarcopenia (muscle loss)

Telehealth is not a substitute for in-clinic care and manual therapy.

Telehealth can not replace all the clinical care you may need. Instead, it adds a new dimension to your choices for how, when, and where to receive services. As a result, ask your therapist about the best mix of services for your unique situation.

A Word About Insurance

Your insurance plan may not cover some telehealth visits. Our staff will do their best to advise you on using insurance, but until such time as this new technology gains widespread acceptance, we ask that you check with your insurance first.
